I just did a bloody STUPID Thing!!!
I went to check my portal apps to see if there was any change - and I accidentally deleted my application to 12KBW!! I am DISTRAUGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think there is ANY way of restoring it!!!!!! * *********WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!******* I am NEVER EVER going to visit that place EVER again - one slip of the finger and I will have no applications left for this year!!!! I am too upset to type anymore!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

It's likely that the application would already have been downloaded by 12KBW and so would not go amiss. Should they ask you for interview, though, I think they won't be able to update OLPAS status itself...You should contact the tech support people.

Anonymous said...

Also, you have Farrar's listed twice.

BTW, how did you manage to delete the 12KBW app---you'd need to click on the chambers' name in the overview (which isn't neccessary as the status is listed on the page reviewing all 12?)

Minxy!!!! I'd contact the pupillage portal support... Like Anon said, they probably already downloaded it, but they may still get a message from the portal to stop considering it! :O

I wonder if we can contact Portal chambers ourselves if our details change or in situations like this?..

Anon, thanks!

Mel said...

Ouch - I'm sure the tech people can recover it for you/12KBW will understand if you call them?

Just spotted that a fellow alum is there. Had no idea she got a First class! Always seemed quite a ditz - goes to show, you can't judge by the cover!

Anon, I was in a bit of a flap and made a GENUINE MISTAKE - wouldnt you if you were coping with a rioting toddler ( mercifully not mine!) who was just about to pour his apple juice all over my laptop?!

Law Minx said...

(PS: I am STILL seriously annoyed with myself - and with Morrisons apple juice!!!!)

Anonymous said...

That's precisely why I keep all my toddlers well-caged.

Law Minx said...

Update: the very excellent people at 12 KBW have emailed to say not to worry, my application will still be treated as live. PHEW.

Anonymous said...

Gosh golly, they do wake up early.

It's too bad really, I too applied to 12KBW and would have favoured the formidable Minx dropping out of the race.

Law Minx said...

The thing is Anon, is that, well, you are Anon and therefore an unknown quantity of doubtlessly considerable wonderfulness who fits in with chambers ethos like a glove, whereas I, on the other hand, am probably a bit of a round peg trying to fit into a square hole! :)

great james street are interviewing.
3vb have apparently gone to 2nds already - that kinda gives the lie to the infinitely extendable olpas rubber band.
seems a lot of criminal sets. (yes i know what 3vb do).

Law Minx said...

I am firmly of a mind to award 3VB a Freddie under the category 'Fastest Finger First'.....!

Keating have just announced their first round; interviewing on June 20th.

Landmark Chambers have just announced that their 'Assessment Day' (I wonder what that means?) will be on 24th June.

Minxy, I'm really glad that everything worked out with 2 KBW! LEt's hope you get an interview there 8)

Law Minx said...

Tell ya Andro - KBW were fantastic, really reassuring ( I wouldnt even now feel bad if I am rejected because I suspect they will be so nice about it!!) so it was all a bit of a storm in a teacup really ... thank heavens! :)

I know its not quite a comment to this post, but I am trying to get the word out to any students who have applications in olpas, and feeling the pain of not knowing.

http://www.legalgirl.co.uk/node/53

is a tool that is collecting all the data from as many students as possible, and displaying it back as a list of chambers and how many replies they have given out ( reject, intervie or no contact )

Please tell as many other students as possible, the more that use it, the better the data

2 Paper Buildings - good news!

Android said...

Minxy, I went to check on the Portal yesterday, and I discovered 2 rejections! How nice of them to "email" me! They do email you when you have an interview, I hope?! I also saw the 'withdraw' button. I better keep away from it! Who knows what dofferent chamers are like! )

Kicking and Fighting, how can you view the results?

Anon, congrats!

When you fill in the form, it links you to the results.

Andro - That's Absolutely TERRIBLE - and how seriously Bloody RUDE!! As BAD as OLPAS was, at least emails would arrive TELLING you to go and look at the website, under the relevant chambers, for their decision. I am now officially not only scared to go there in case I accidentally bugger up any more apps, but also to see if I have been rejected behind my back!!

Anonymous said...

Hey Android, did you apply to chancery chambers again this year or have you diversified?

Also, whatever happened to the Russian blog?

P.S. I meant no offence vis a vis Minx's blog...I'm an avid (but tired) reader. It's simply a comment on her writing style (which I'm sure is different in other contexts) rather than the substance, which I find to be insightful and entertaining. I.e. Dostoyevsky or Dickens are great writers and recognised as such, but some prefer the more economical syntax of, say, Hemingway.

barmaid said...

Know what you mean Android, I too had a nasty shock when I somewhat lazily logged onto the Portal, only to discover that I'd received rejections. How very dare they:-)

Android said...

Kicking and Fighting, it seems like a good idea, but the mandatory registration has put me off a bit...

Minxy, that's the phrase I was looking for - "rejected behind my back"!

Anon, I also focused on PI sets, and I even applied to some London chambers! I'm getting to a stage where I just want *a pupillage*.

My Russian blog is still there (even though I removed it from my profile), but I think it became obsolete. I might revive it, but I can't be bothered right now.

Android said...

Barmaid, I also don't like the fact that unlike in OLPAS, they don't even include their best wishes for my pupillage search elsewhere in a standard rejection letter! Not that those sets were my first choices anyway...

barmaid said...

There is one Chambers that I've set my heart on that haven't rejected me yet, so I'm still hopeful, sort of.

Oh well there's always cake:-)

Android-in your latest update, I think you left out Ely Place and York Chambers (cited on TSR earlier today).

Kicking and Fighting said...

The form uses the username to wipe all items from the database each time they repost, so that as you hear about more rejections or interviews, it can remove your old entries, and add the new.

It's as simple as that. Use a disposable address for all it matters.

its too big to post all in here, but here is a cut of the last update at 23:13

Chambers Reject Interview No Reply
1 Mitre Court Buildings 0 0 3
1 Pump Court 0 0 3
18 Red Lion Court 0 0 6
187 Fleet Street 0 0 5
2 Bedford Row 6 4 0
25 Bedford Row 0 0 5
29 Bedford Row Chambers 0 1 0
5 King's Bench Walk 4 0 0
Matrix Chambers 0 0 4
QEB Hollis Whiteman 1 5 0
Three Raymond Buildings 5 2 0
Tooks Chambers 0 0 3
Westgate Chambers 0 0 1
Zenith Chambers 1 0 0

QEB being the strangest one of the lot, with more interviews than rejections!

An admirable effort, but the numbers of respondents you are likely to get will leave your data random at best, misguiding at worst.

ButtonFan said...

23 Essex Street have started making phone calls for interviews next week.

Kicking and Fighting said...

"but the numbers of respondents you are likely to get will leave your data random at best"

Not so.. You can already see a list of chambers that are definatly not interviewing yet, you can also see those that have contacted everyone..

the 1's and 2's sure, but some with 4 - 11 entries, is a good enough guide.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Anon. I personally did not feel comfortable signing up to the website, especially as I can come to Android's site or The Student Room and post the same information anonymously.

LegallyGinge said...

Yeah I wouldn't sign into that website

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't attribute some nefarious purpose to the creator of the software--frankly, if you wanted to gather emails and other personal data illicitly, you wouldn't target a group of aspiring barristers, on account of their inate nosiness/suspicion.

It's a very bizzarre blog, though--like something written by a BVC provider rather than an actual individual--so impersonal.

LegallyGinge said...

It is also factually incorrect on most of its information, ie clearing 3rd April.

5 Essex Court have just announced.

Crown Office are making phonecalls today, interviews on June 29th.

Deans Court sent out interviews today (possibly earlier)

Miss Middle of Manchester said...

Oh, Deans Court interviews on 27 June.

Anonymous said...

Matrix just announced.

Android said...

Thanks for your contribution, guys! I updated the list.

Miss Middle of Manchester said...

Anyone heard from Lincoln House or Atlantic?

Kicking and Fighting said...

I understand the not wanting to sign into things.. thats the drawback of the extra information we can show, i.e. tracks who hasn't heard, but then updates those specic people as they do hear.

Also, if i wanted email addresses, coding this for 10 hours would have been better put to pulling email addresses off facebook, or similar, and I'd aim a bit higher than a bunch of students who by virtue of their career class are mainly over 30k in debt!

eitherway - The results can be seen directly by going to www.legalgirl.co.uk/results

Bonjour! You can add 13 Old Square to that list as well...

Charter Chambers!

Android said...

Kicking and Fighting, what's the point of including the 'haven't heard' data anyway? If you haven't heard, don't vote for that chambers... Or, if you have to go through the whole list each time you get a letter, that's just too time consuming.

Anonymous said...

I think the logic behind it is that the 'did not hear' is a baseline--showing how many respondents did respond for that chambers but did not get acceptance/rejection. If you just left the accepted/rejected options, then you wouldn't know, looking over the stats, whether there is no information because no one bothered to respond to that particular set or because there has genuinely not been any notification.
